Purple Hair Envy

Ever since Katy Perry went purple earlier this year, I've been really loving this look. Not as vibrant as most unnatural colours I love how updating to a violet colour can completely change your look. For someone reason it's also a colour which goes very well with vintage hair styles. While lilac and washed out purples have been seen on many celebrities recently such as Kelly Osbourne, I prefer the dark, violet colour with tones of black. When I do attempt this I think Schwarzkopf Color XXL is a good choice, as they are well known for their long lasting unusual colour range, but any dramatic colour change requires lots of maintenance. My favourites form the range are Mystic Violet and Berry Burst below.

Gwen Stefani's Vintage Inspired Style

Her band No Doubt, may have their roots based on the 1970s Punk movement; but lead singer Gwen Stefani can often be seen sporting vintage looks which span the 20th Century including the 1920s and 1940s.  With her platinum blonde hair and striking red lips, Gwen's style echoes former Hollywood pin ups Jean Harlow and Marilyn Monroe. Here are some of my favourite Stefani vintage inspired looks throughout the years.

Black Vintage Hair Appreciation

I've been dying my hair black since the age of about 15 and I've had it black pretty much ever since; except when I went copper for 6 months last year. Since I did go to a lighter shade I bleached my hair which now means the black is highly prone to fading and I think mine has lasted just about as long as it can take. So this weekend I'm hoping to dye it back to it's former jet black glory (after a deep condition) and as I've been running a fun, vintage hair & make-up blog www.vintagecurlsandpouts.tumblr.com the past few weeks I've come across lot's of wonderful new hairstyles that I'm hoping to try out on myself too. So here's some pics of my black hair envy with a vintage inspired twist!
